Franciscan Missionary Cross
This is a reproduction of a Franciscan missionary cross that was unearthed in the mission of Santa Clara, California.
The original cross was most probably cast in Spain in bronze in the second half of the 18th century. It was found buried with its owner, a Franciscan friar. Both sides of the cross have images. On one side is the portrayal of the crucified Christ and on the other side is the Madonna holding the Christ child. Above the Madonna is the Holy Spirit. The images on both sides are sculpted in high relief.
